There’s really no point to this post, but I was going through my random notes and got reminded of what I wrote about Ephesians 4:30 two months ago. It’s a short writing I always go back to for encouragement and I hope it encourages you today. Have a fruitful week!
“And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.” – Ephesians 4:30
Ephesians 4 Verse 30 sticks out to me in the passage. Just thinking of how much our sins affect God. He grieved the day Adam and Eve made sin enter the world, he grieved when he had to die to save us from the sins we commit by ourselves. To think that even after being saved by him, his spirit within us still grieves because we are sinful makes me feel so ungrateful. How can God not have given up on me after everything, why does he still love me like this? Why is he so committed to the renewal of my spirit to make me like him? It’s because he’s so gracious, and I never want to take his grace for granted. So I pray everyday for God to help me walk in his steps and make me more like him. Looking forward to the day our redemption story will be complete (when he comes again) and our new bodies come. Bodies that won’t be prone to sin, so I don’t grieve God anymore, he’s been through too much for me.

I don’t think I’ve shared enough about my college experiences on the blog, and that is about to change. If you don’t know, I’m Oyinlola, a Nigerian student currently pursuing a college (university) degree at Temple University, in the United States. In my next couple of posts, I’ll be sharing both my positive and negative experiences as an international student, and how to make the most your college years.
So, sit back, read and enjoy;
I was very excited to leave home for the first time in 2014. Excited to explore life and have fun without my parents restriction in a new country. America to me, held endless possibilities. I was caught up in the fantasy of studying abroad that I don’t think I ever thought about what the downside of leaving home would be. I didn’t stop to think of how hard missing home would be or how much growing up I would have to do quickly. It’s been three years since leaving home, and figuring things out on my own. In this post, I’m only sharing the positive experiences, we’ll talk about the negatives in the next post.
Studying Abroad has made me define my identity. In Nigeria, I never stopped to think about my ethnicity. The fact that I was Nigerian, African or foreign to some people never crossed my mind. The only differences I noticed were tribal and class differences. As far as I knew, everyone, everything was familiar, and there was nothing to define. I made this statement in class recently, ‘”There is no identity where there is no difference”. Continue reading “Let’s Chat- Realities of studying Abroad | Is it worth it? Part 1”
When you become a believer in a world that is forgetting God, and choosing to live life the way it pleases, it becomes easy to see the world in its broken state. It’s like you are given fresh lenses that enable you view the world differently. When you begin to see this brokenness, it’s easy to lose hope in God’s redemption plan sometimes . You start to take some of the worlds’ burden upon yourself, and it becomes too much to carry. I can’t count the number of times I thought to myself and prayed that God will just come back already. However, remember that we aren’t called to carry the world’s burden. Jesus tells us this instead; “Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” The only burden we are called to bear in Christ is his, not the worlds’.
Don’t be depressed because the world is in a sad state, it is not surprising. The world has always neglected God and done whatever it pleases, but the hope we have is that God’s redemption story isn’t over yet. He calls out to his people amidst the world’s chaos and restores them back to himself. There is beauty that lies within the ashes, and I’m encouraging you today as much as I am encouraging myself.
So what do you do on those days when all you hear is bad news about crime, murder, terrorism and so on?
This is what I do: Continue reading “How to live in a world devoid of God’s presence”
It’s back to school season, and I’m not sure how I feel about that yet (ask me in 3 weeks), but I hope you are excited, especially if you’re just starting out in college. I wish you a great semester and year ahead. I hope you are ready to take on this new adventure and to experience life like never before. In the midst of excitement and nervousness, it’s quite easy to forget a few important things you need for school no matter how basic, but don’t worry, I’m here to remind you of them.
Here are 5 things you shouldn’t be forgetting this school year: Continue reading “Back To School Reminder || Things you should have ready for school”
I’m sorry for neglecting my style posts for the longest time, it’s mostly because I assumed that you enjoyed my ‘deep’ posts more. I also don’t think I’m the most stylish person, when compared to fashion bloggers who you can probably learn more from, but I received a comment this week requesting more style posts, and who am I to ignore. That was my cue to bring back style posts, and here’s the first one after several months. Hope you like it!
You’ve most likely seen this dress worn by a lot of people on Instagram lately. Personally, I spent a lot of time drooling over the dress on the web, contemplating if I should get it or not, especially after seeing Kiitana do it justice. Just when I got over my dress crush, my awesome friend surprised me with it (Look at God!). The fact that she got the same dress in a different colour while we were on vacation made us go out, look cute and take pictures in our matching outfits. You know, just to utilise the purchase effectively.
The dress is a Bardot Florals Shirred Tulip Hem Dress (quite a mouthful), and although you can purchase it from various sites, I recommend this link. I was too lazy to think about accessories when I wore the dress, that’s why it is paired with only a nice pair of light pink sandals from Forever21. If you are feeling more glam, you can wear a chunky necklace, bracelets with heels, and your look will be elevated. Continue reading “A touch of Floral Please?”
I know I know, the title of this post sounds all fancy and official, and I have my friend, Sophia to thank for that. She suggested that I write this, and it surprised me that I never thought to write about prayer before. I probably thought I had something similar up since prayer is so dear to my heart, but I guess I was wandering in dreamland. You might have noticed that every religion has elements of prayer in it. That’s because if you believe in God or something greater than yourself, you understand the need to put your hope and trust in the entity ruling over you and the whole world, an entity that knows and controls everything from past to the future.
Prayer stems from accepting that you need to worship/ reverence God, and make your requests known to him. It is casting your burdens at his feet and letting him take care of them. You pray because you are fighting battles against demons and principalities that you cannot see. Prayer time is a time to bask in the glory of your maker, and allow your heart experience his mightiness. Prayer opens doors, moves mountains, breaks chains, soothes your soul and allows you to feel God’s presence constantly.
Think about it this way, God Almighty has given unworthy you unconditional access to approach his throne of grace and mercy, and you ought to take full advantage of the privilege. Here’s a simple definition of prayer by Dr. Ralph Martin that I love; “Prayer is at root simply paying attention to God.” It is humbling yourself, accepting that it is not about you or your situation, but it’s instead all about God and his glory. This is what we are created for anyways, to glorify God!
Now that you understand why you need to pray, let’s get into the practicals of making prayer a lifestyle: Continue reading “The Underestimated Power of Prayer”
How time does fly. It’s been a full month of not writing or putting up any post, and this wasn’t my intent. Let me tell you, I had such huge blog plans for summer 2017. I was going to put up posts almost daily, and be annoyingly consistent. I’m so happy for you guys that this didn’t happen. I was very excited, but you know how life is, you can only plan for the future but you never know how it’ll go. God had a lot of unexpected plans for me. For example, I thought I would have plenty free time during the summer than I did during school but this wasn’t the case. I don’t know how it happened, but summer felt busier than the past semesters. Busy in the greatest way possible. Busy learning, growing, exploring and relaxing. Since I wasn’t prepared for the workload, I slacked with keeping up. But now, I’ve gotten into a steady rhythm of things (just when summer is about to end, yay me), and I’m back! Continue reading “Funny story of how I started blogging”
Am I right in stating that almost every female teen or young adult dreams about her future home? If you haven’t, you’re probably very unique (in the best way). I’m not as unique as you are though, I look forward to having a place to call home. Being in college away from home, makes me miss home so much. It gets me excited for the time when I have a place to call home again. I know I’ll be both excited and terrified to decorate. Thankfully, I have a mom who is amazing at home decor to help me out.
The third place I’m going to decorate in my home after the living room and kitchen, is most likely my beauty room. I dream about having a personal space that includes a mini home office and makeup station. I would like my bedroom to be just for sleep and relaxation. In anticipation of the day my dream comes true, I’ll be here, patiently fantasizing about my dream vanity space. Since there is no fun in dreaming alone, I’m sharing with you guys how I envision my future beauty space. Hopefully, it inspires you.
Did you know blue is my favorite color? If you didn’t, now you know. That’ why it’s no surprise that I would want my space to reflect different shades of blue. Also, since I absolutely love the combination of blue and white, the room will be blue and white themed, giving off a sense of calm and tranquility, which I always crave. I know I would want blue and white walls like the picture below. Also, the space will be in 3 sections. There’ll be an office space, a couch area for when I get lazy, and a makeup station. The sections are showcased below. Continue reading “My dream Vanity (Beauty) Room feat. Arhaus”
Eyyyyyyy heyyyyyy….. I’m super excited today, and I’m sure you can guess why. On the 29th of June 2016, I shared my very first blog post accidentally (story for another day). Fast forward to July 2017, and my baby is 1 (that’s right, this blog is my precious baby), and that’s why I wanted everything about this post/celebration to be perfect. First of all, I need to give a huge shout-out to you. Yes, you who is reading right now. I am so grateful to you for taking the time to read this post, I appreciate you. To all who have been reading this young blog since day 1, you are the real MVPs and I love you. You keep me going, and you are the reason why Hazy Fantasies is still alive today. I hope you feel very special.
If you asked me a year ago if I wanted to be a blogger, I probably wouldn’t have understood what you were asking me. I only discovered the blogging world in the summer of 2016, through Instagram and YouTube. I love reading and viewing cute photos, so it was no surprise that I got hooked on blogs. I started mine in June, and it’s been a journey ever since. Blogging is such an experience (a positive one). It’s been an amazing documentation of my growth as an individual and my struggles. I love connecting with people on here and building a community. I also love receiving insights and advice from my readers, I honestly apply your wise inputs in my life. Another major lesson I’ve learnt is, blogging is a preview of what real life would be like after university. Working on projects, researching, being disappointed by suppliers/clients, getting bored and finding inspiration, collaborations, networking are things I’ve dealt with and continue to deal with as a blogger.
