Nigeria is without a doubt, a tough country. Most people say it’s a country where a mosquito can hold you at gunpoint saying “Ogbeni, Give me your blood.”
In Nigeria and most countries, women are brought up to see other women as threats. The same goes for the men. Think you’re not one of them? Think twice.
Have you ever looked at your group of friends and said “I’m definitely the Beyoncé in this group”. Nobody says “Bukky is the Beyoncé (it girl) and I’m the Jenifa (the lame one)”
You hold a subtle grudge with anyone you think is better and has achieved more than you.
Still don’t think so? Here’s a short story to illustrate. Continue reading “A Piece On Bullying In Nigeria- By Bukola Ogungbade”

It’s everyone’s favorite time of the year, Summer! Students are always excited for the long holiday, and are constantly on the hunt for fun activities and places to visit. This is the reason why this post exits.
If you’re in Philadelphia for the summer, this post is for you. Philly has lots of special places to visit, and I’ve realized that my favorite spots in the city are its parks. Although, the city is home to numerous parks, the three mentioned below are my top and I tell you why… Continue reading “Where to PARK yourself this Summer (Philly Edition)”

We have been thought all our lives to endure being single. We believe that we are merely existing, and one day when we find our partners (future spouse/ perfect match/soulmate), we’ll suddenly become over joyous, reach ultimate fulfilment and have everything fall into place. We learn this from the movies we watch, books we read, our parents, and society as a whole. Since we’ve been fed this from childhood, it is normal that we internalize these ideas, and believe them. Be honest with yourself, you thought this way, I know I did. Each one of us longs, waits, and fantasizes about that special someone who will come and magically sweep us off our feet. My name is Allie Edwards. I want to share with you how I began incorporating my faith into my art, and how it is helping me work towards God’s calling in my life. I hope this will give you insight into how you can learn about God’s calling in your life, using a visual tool called “GPS”. First, I’ll let you all know who I am! Continue reading “#Testimony: Going for God or Self?”
This is the most random post I’ve ever written, but stick with me, I promise this is going somewhere. I feel led to encourage someone who is struggling or feels stuck. I want to let you know that God is with you amidst your struggle. Something I learnt recently is that God is faithful to us because ‘Faithful’ is who he is. He won’t be God if he is not faithful to us. Continue reading “#Testimony: You are Never Lost”
You probably know this, but in case you’re new here, my name is Oyinlola, and I’m Christian. I’m not the Christian that believes in shying away from real conversations. I believe Jesus came to challenge our wrong mindsets through his word (he had conversations all through the bible), so our hearts can be transformed. This is why I appreciate pastors/ministers who deliver unfiltered sermons, through empowerment of the Spirit. No longer should Christians pretend that they are not affected by relationship and sex issues. Truth is, we do think about dating and sex, and for a long time, the church avoided delving into these matters. This means that young people like me have been learning about relationships and sex from the world, and we’ve been struggling. These issues affect us, and if we do not learn what God has to say about them, we’ll never attain his fullness for our lives, and always settle for mediocre. No one loves social media more than me. Actually that’s a lie, a lot of people love social media more than I do. The point is, I am a sucker for social platforms (God bless those innovators), especially Instagram because I share experiences, pictures, and connect with people easily on it. However, I’m not oblivious to the sunken hole that social media can become. I know this because I’ve almost gone there. Not knowingly, but I started using social media as a coping mechanism when something wasn’t right within. It was easy to recognize that I was getting to this point because I’ve always known how to balance my media presence and state of mind. I never allow people’s posts phase me because I know it’s the best part of their lives, and everyone hides the bad. However, I wasn’t thinking about all these when I needed the socials to take my mind off reality. I’m not sure if this happens to other people, so let me know of your experience. For the past year, God has had a lot to teach me about relationships. Not just romantic relationships, but every form- friendships, colleagues, classmates, family and sibling relationships- you name it. I’ll write several posts tackling each kind of relationship, but the one that’s on my heart at the moment is friendships.
Quick background: I enjoy being around people, and I make friends easily, but I’ve never been one to let anyone too close. As I’ve noticed, a lot of worldly friendships are this way.
We humans are so helpless that we don’t know how to build real friendships without Gods’ help. We build surface level friendships, and avoid getting to know each other deeply, or we share too much about ourselves to the wrong people. We gossip, laugh, even have fun together, but our souls hurt inside and we never share. As long as the faces we put up look fine, and we slay together, we’re good right?
